I must begin by saying that this is not a political post; this is not about bashing BP or the US administration. Second, although I do confess to being a news-junkie, I have the same limited knowledge of the situation that is available to all of you. I am no more plugged into the administration or BP than I am plugged into the hole one mile underwater in the ocean. More than one month after the start of this disaster, here is how I see it from a collaboration standpoint. The issue of trust is at the core of effective collaboration. The most basic definition of collaboration (co-labor) is working jointly with others for shared goals and outcomes. The need for trust thus arises due to the interdependence between parties. A trust relationship inherently has risk for the parties involved. Individual personal behaviors are different that manage this trust and associated risk. Since trust it at the core of collaboration, how does one build trust? What is trust anyway? What are individual behaviors and expectations in a trust relationship? What can be done to rebuild trust when trust is violated? These are some of the question we address in this post.

Here we list the comments we received on the State of Collaboration from our survey respondents. We undertook this study on the State of Collaboration to understand and assess current practices in collaboration and future outlook on collaboration. Over 450 respondents participated in the survey conducted by All Collaboration in January and February 2010.
