Collaboration Technologies 5th on CIOs Technology Priorities
19 February 2009 Tweet According to the 2009 CIO survey by Gartner, collaboration technologies ranked 5th on technology priority for CIOs. Ahead of collaboration technologies are: business intelligence, enterprise applications, server and storage technologies, and legacy application modernization. Top business priorities are business process improvement and reducing enterprise costs.
Given the economic downturn, or at least economic uncertainty, IT expenditures are likely to be lower than forecast. Investment in collaboration technologies will suffer, if enterprises revert to investing and maintaining existing IT infrastructure. Collaboration technologies are clearly a part of business process improvement, which is the #1 business priority. This apparent conflict illustrates that collaboration is not all about technology; it is also about people, process and culture. Collaboration is a business strategy for harnessing enterprise competence, and investments in collaboration must be considered in this larger context.
