Leveraging Social Media for Person 2.0
30 November 2009 Tweet Many a channels are available for leveraging social media for professional growth. We outline a straightforward model below:
- Discover me: Make your interests, views and expertise available to your target audience through applicable channels. For example: create personal blogs, leverage social and professional networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn, broadcast on microblogging sites like Twitter, comment on blogs of interest, and get indexed in search engines.
- Like me: Offer content of value and interest to the target audience to establish credibility. Targeted content of value is the key.
- Follow me: Create a network of followers through frequently updated content of interest to the target audience. Frequency and quality of content updates would determine the quality and quantity of your followers.
- Follow them: Follow your audience -- contribute and engage in the ongoing dialog.
- Promote me: Be patient. Your followers would promote you and your points-of-view, only to the extent they value them and believe that their social network can benefit from such content and expertise. Asking your followers for promoting you is usually not effective.
